Hwy 212 Rehabilitation
This project along Hwy 212 in Sacred Heart, Minnesota included a Complete Streets reconstruction through downtown and 10 miles of rural roadway resurfacing. The project increased the longevity of the roadway and improved safety, drainage, and pedestrian facilities.
Isthmus played a significant role on both the preliminary and final design for the corridor reconstruction along a 12-block stretch of downtown Sacred Heart. Our team developed ADA-compliant designs, incorporating pedestrian ramps and enhancing overall pedestrian safety, while maintaining two travel lanes and parking spaces. Varied elevations throughout the pedestrian areas and at business entrances presented a considerable design challenge that our team addressed in detail. Civil Cells were utilized during ADA design and modeling to explore multiple design iterations and provide a comprehensive view of the final design.
At the 60% plan milestone, our team was tasked with preparing plans for alternate bids for the rural resurfacing along Hwy 212. Two separate plan sets were created: one for bituminous resurfacing and one for concrete, with the latter chosen by the contractor. Our team modeled both alternatives, incorporating the drainage design, to accurately quantify earthwork and show grading in cross sections.
Throughout the project, our team maintained a high level of precision, ensuring that the winning-bid contractor could proceed with construction without delays or requests for clarification.
