"The safe and efficient flow of traffic through work zones is a major concern to transportation officials, industry, the public, businesses, and commercial motor carriers. The FHWA Work Zone Management Program is working to 'make work zones work better' by providing transportation practitioners with high-quality products, tools, and information that can be of value in planning, designing, and implementing safer, more efficient, and less congested work zones." - To learn about work zone management, please visit the FHWA Work Zone Management Program website at https://www.fhwa.dot.gov/workzones.
PROJECT OVERVIEW
This project was part of a larger initiative by MnDOT to reconstruct TH 35W from 36th St. to TH 94 in Minneapolis. Specifically, this project was to develop the maintenance of traffic (MOT) to support the roadway reconstruction project.
Isthmus led the design of the 30+ detour routes on the project. This included local and regional detours to aid the traveling public while certain sections of the project were under reconstruction. The detours included both vehicular and pedestrian routes. Special sign panels were created utilizing SignCAD for guidance to travelers in certain areas where additional destination information was needed due to the detours.
