I-35W North MnPASS Design-Build
Project Overview
This three-year reconstruction project along a 12-mile stretch of I-35W between Roseville and Lino Lakes included the construction of E-ZPass Express Lanes, repaving of I-35W and ramps, repair and replacement of bridges, and installation of noise walls. It repaired aging infrastrucure and aimed to improve mobility, reduce congestion, and increase highway safety along the corridor.
Our Work
Isthmus led the design for the signing of northbound I-35W from County Road C in Roseville to County Road 96 in Arden Hills. The project included Type C, D, and OH freeway signing. The design of the overhead signs included 16 structures: six spans, seven cantilevers, and three continuous span structures, some of them holding DMS signs. This was the first Isthmus project using MnDOT's newly developed and published Design D Overhead Sign Structure Standard Plans.
Our team also provided Quality Management services. Tasks included audits of over 60 design packages requiring an audit of both Submittal for Comment packages and Release for Construction in each design package and over 50 NDCs (notice of design change) during construction. The audit scope included plans, reports, maps, and calculations.
